Christian School 101

That’s the title of a workshop being offered by the Southern Baptist Association of Christian Schools (SBACS) in various locations and times.  You can find out more information by clicking on the SBACS link on this blog, and then clicking on the link to the seminars.

SBACS is an organization that clearly sees the purpose of Christian school education as a discipleship ministry for the churches.  Their idea of what a Christian school should be doing is training up the next generation of church leaders.  The Christian school experience should be one that helps keep kids in the church through college and their adult life, and trains them to be church leaders.  That’s why they are such strong advocates for churches starting Christian schools, and what this seminar is about.

Southern Baptists have frequently debated a resolution that would call on them to remove their kids from public school.  The only real problem in doing that would be that there isn’t nearly enough room in schools currently operated by Southern Baptist churches to accomodate them.  I’m still not convinced that many Southern Baptists are aware of the need for Christian schools, even at this late hour when we are losing 80% of the youth that are active in their church life during high school before they graduate from college.
